THE SENSES IN THE TANGO por Manuel González

A while ago, in another article, I said that hygiene should be part of the behavioural code of the tango. Clean, fresh and with good breath is important.
When we want to dance with someone, and be intimate for a few minutes with another body, to share a hug, music, structure, and also the touch and the energy of the other ... But what we do not know is that it implies also to accept the flavors and smells of the other. In my opinion, the fragrance is an important part of the dance.

EL INDIO AND SOCIAL MILONGA AT SAN TELMO

The fight for the tango is part of his life. Not so much to do or learn to appreciate and Argentina, but in order to maintain its place in San Telmo: historic district whose central square is now invaded by the bar tables, almost to the point that you cannot walk. And a place like this to Plaza Dorrego, the symbol of the tango in Buenos Aires, the place is almost always a few couples dancing and music, could be a detriment.
It is no coincidence that El Indio is right here (his real name is Pedro Benavente) is dancing here since almost twenty years (he started in 1992) every Sunday to try continueing the musical tradition of the neighborhood and beyond. Pedro uses the tango as a mean to spread the culture of Argentina, his milonga in the square on Sunday is always full of tourists to whom, dance after dance, he explains the meaning of the tango from so many points of view.

THE TWO SIDES OF THE SAME MILONGA

San Telmo. One Sunday morning like many: the market, crafts and tango orchestras. Many people are only here to promote their performances in other venues during the week and the San telmo works for them as the best PR you can find. Among these there is the El Afronte orchestra, where the violinist is a girl 26 years old and the public relations manager, Gabriel, plays the viola and is nicknamed is "El Gato".
"Come and see us on Monday and Wednesday evenings: the “Bendita” and “Maldita” milonga" El Gato says. The idea of distinguishing the representations in “Bendita” and “Maldita” literally blessed and cursed, was an initiative of the orchestra to be able to stand out among the many tango bands that invade the city each year. Because, as the singer of El Afronte says "we put up an orchestra of tango because we like it and because when you play the tango there is more communication between people".

TANGO AT ROBERTO'S BAR

Once "El boliche de Roberto" was a Coffee Shop for men only, one of those places where a young lady could not, or should not go. The Coffee Shop was founded by a Spanish arrived in Argentina from Asturia in early ‘900, where they sold drinks and played cards: activities for men and nothing more. Perhaps, occasionally a political discussion.
On the walls there are still hundreds of bottles, all full of dust, just like it pleased the father of Roberto, the founder of the place which is located in Almagro. Before picking up the Coffee Shop of his father, Roberto worked in the municipality of Buenos Aires, and his skills had nothing to do with running a club. Even for him it was very important that the bottles remain dusty because, as explained by Roberto's son, Esteban. "Washing the bottles when you ruining the label and they losing their main feature."
