BUENOS AIRES: the opening of the USINA DEL ARTE

From Wednesday, May 23, Buenos Aires will have a beautiful new space for art.
With a concert tribute to Astor Piazzolla, the government of Buenos Aires will open at 19 the "Usina del Arte" (the Factory of the Art) located in the former building of the company Italo Argentina de Electricidad, in the neighborhood of La Boca. The opening of the building will be one of the most important cultural events in the City, after the restoration of the Teatro Colón, for the Bicentennial. The particular building, a Florentine-style palace, located on Avenida Pedro de Mendoza, between Caffarena and Benito Perez Galdos, was built by Italo Argentina de Electricidad, designed by Italian architect Juan Chiogna, during 1914 and 1916. Inside the 12 boilers produced steam necessary at the turbines that produced electricity. With a total area of 15,000 m2, the “Usina del Arte” consists in a Symphony Hall of a 1,200-seat, three levels of boxes that have been paid particular attention to get a sound perfect, especially considering the fact that the building is situated close to Buenos Aires-La Plata highway.; a Chamber Concert Hall with seating for 400, composed of two layers of boxes and one of the stalls, with the aim of creating a space of greater intimacy between the artist and the audience; a Rehearsal Room concert and the Main Foyer. For the Expositions will use the Salón Dorado, 59 per 18 meters and 20 meters high, with balconies decorated with stone of Paris and the handrails that have been fully recovered.
